The ASEAN regional dissemination workshop on the development and dissemination of technical guidelines for plastics and resin pellets leakage prevention from factories and the informal recycling sector in the ASEAN was held at Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya, Thailand on 28th and 29th September 2023. The workshop was conducted as a part of the project undertaken by AIT RRC.AP to develop and disseminate technical guidelines for plastic and resin pellets leakage from recycling factories and informal recycling sectors in the ASEAN. The project is funded by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris, (RKC-MPD) and its objective is aligned with the ASEAN regional action plan for combating marine plastic debris.

The workshop was ?intended to disseminate key findings and lessons learned of the project to ASEAN member states (AMS) cities and discuss the way forward. Representative from Hanoi (Vietnam), Iloilo (Philippines), Nonthaburi (Thailand), Manila (Philippines), Pattaya (Thailand), and Vientiane (Lao PDR) participated in the workshop and presented on plastic waste management (PWM) and good practices on PWM in their cities. Workshop participants also engaged in active discussion to explore various management practices adopted by the AMS cities. AIT RRC.AP also presented on the summary of the assessment findings and lesson learned from the site visits and stakeholders’ consultation conducted at the participating cities. The key findings of the technical guidelines for the recycling sector to manage the leakage of the plastics during the recycling process was also presented in the workshop. ?

The kNOwWaste Knowledge Platform was developed through a Project Cooperation Agreement funding by UNEP on 2016. The platform provides data and information on holistic waste management to stakeholders in Asia and the Pacific region. The platform was developed with the following aims: generate and consolidate data or information on holistic waste management, transform data into easily comprehensible outputs for use by key stakeholders, map out and disseminate information on international waste management projects under the GPWM and UNEP projects as well as other international partners, and provide capacity building support through dissemination of data or information support for relevant stakeholders on holistic waste and waste management system.
